Griffou – 21 W 9th St, NY 10111 ph (212) 358-0228
Griffou is having a special Mother’s Day dinner that includes a glass of bubbly for that amazing woman you call ‘Mom.’ The historic restaurant is located in a tree-lined neighborhood in West Village and has a long reputation of being a favorite hang-out for writers and other creative people. The Griffou gets its name from a 1870s boarding house that originally housed many writer, actors, artists because of the owner’s interest in creative types.
Griffou is no longer a hotel or boarding house, but you can feel the vibe of the writers that used to hang out there such as Mark Twain, Edna St. Vincent Millay, an Ida Tarbell. Mae West is also supposedly to have visited after her indecency trial to have a drink there. The menu includes moderately priced items between $10-25, and Griffou is well known in the neighborhood for their original and potent cocktails, such as original mojitos. Here’s a link to the Dinner Menu.
