Homes with Their Own Private Athletic Facilities

“All the comforts of home” takes on a completely new meaning when your home has its own private athletic facilities. We’re not talking about driveway basketball hoops, a home gym or indoor swimming pool here…these homes have bowling alleys, indoor basketball courts, baseball diamonds and even race tracks. Whatever your sport, there is probably a home for you with complete facilities.

A $4.5 million home in the community of Summerlin, a suburb near to Las Vegas has a three-quarter-size indoor basketball and volleyball court with professional grade flooring and a glass-enclosed viewing area with comfortable leather seating for family and friend fans. The court is equipped with video cameras that broadcast your games into the whole house.

For more extreme sports, consider the Wawaset, Pennsylvania home of stunt skater, Brandon “Bam” Margera. “Castle Bam,” complete with a quarter pipe, rails and jumps, is the skating lover’s private skate park. The home itself, sports a gothic theme and was the setting for MTV reality show “Viva La Bam.”

The White House’s bowling alley is well known, but you do not have to be the President of the United States to have your own. One home, in Lake Mary, Florida sports its own Brunswick lanes complete with bumpers and automatic scoring and pin-setting system. United Bowling contractor, Robert Burden, lists the cost to add a bowling alley from as low as $30,000 to upwards of $130,000.

In Windlesham, Surry, England, not only did the owner install its own fully automatic lanes, he added a squash court, full gym with his and hers locker rooms, a football (soccer) field and a pool at either end of the house, both Olympic sized. More indoor luxury is apparent in the cinema that seats sixteen. This home boasts room for eight limousines and stables for up to five horses.

If your sport required more land, check out the Castle Rock, Colorado home with its own Astroturf baseball diamond, including dugouts and a back wall. In the winter, you can keep your skills up with the full-size indoor gym and batting cage in the home’s basement. The 73-acre property belonged to a former Colorado Rockies team member. Tiger Woods’ Juniper Island, Florida place has its own private golf course with four greens, differing turfs and conditions, and a wedge range. The golfer made the additions during a makeover of the $54.5 million property. He also added a tennis court, several pools, a full gym and even an oxygen tank.

In Ocala, Florida, equestrian aficionados might enjoy the Summerfield Estate. At $25 million, the home of Padua stables has eleven barns, over 200 stalls, two race tracks and its own breeding and training centers. A main house has 7,800 square feet, and for guests there is a 1,700 square foot guesthouse. For its massive staff, the property has thirteen staff homes and a dormitory with 22 rooms for seasonal workers.
